Meet Mateo Martin

Mateo was born in Cadiz in 1979. Even from a very young age he has always been a keen sports man. When he was five he received lessons in the martial arts and swimming and continued playing a variety of different sports up until the age of eleven when he started playing golf with his father who was a member at the Novo Sancti Petri Golf Club. A few years later, Mateo´s father turned professional and started teaching at the club whilst at the same time running a municipal practice ground.

Although Mateo was still young, he enjoyed helping his father on weekends and during the holidays, meeting the players and helping with group lessons.  At the age of 19 he became an assistant and began teaching at the Barrosa municipal academy.  He soon realised the importance of speaking foreign languages, and left Spain for England where he got a job at a golf club outside London and was able to perfect his English language skills.

A couple of years later he travelled to Germany where he also took German classes and played some tournaments on the EPD tour in Germany.  On his return from abroad he began working at the golf academy at Novo Sancti Petri and competed on the Spanish circuit for monitors, assistants and fully qualified professionals and obtained his license as a professional player. After his extensive experience teaching golf to people of all ages and levels he is always looking for teaching tips that are clear and easy to perform. His philosophy is that in order to improve your golf you have to have fun playing and at the same time understand the basic principles of the technique in order to make a smooth and effective swing.In his free time Mateo enjoys travelling and is a nature lover. He considers himself a sports enthusiast.  Apart from his passion for golf he also swims and surfs.

He enjoys hiking and biking. At the moment he teaches full time at the golf academy at Novo Sancti Petri and competes in several tournaments throughout the year. He is involved in the Junior Program and also gives single and group lessons for both beginners and advanced students of different nationalities.
